About us.
During the COVID-19 lockdowns, we observed an increase in feelings of loneliness and depression in our immediate surroundings and at the national level. Research from the Dutch Youth Institute* indicates that a sense of connection with friends and peers is a protective factor against these issues. Adolescents who remained connected with their peers during the lockdowns, according to the Dutch Youth Institute*, experienced fewer internalizing problems than young adults who did not.
From our upbringing, with a hint of 90s nostalgia, we’ve started Comfy Community. Although our members are diverse, they share a common interest in the creative industry (art, music, fashion, photography, film). These young adults also share a loss: they do not feel represented by the current range of community centers and are looking for other environments for self-development, growth and inclusivity. Comfy Community is active both online and offline in various neighborhoods and countries. This hybrid way of working is inspired by the nomadic way of life of our ancestors.
In the digital age, Comfy Community is not limited to a specific neighborhood but operates in various cities in the Netherlands and Belgium; we can create a community center out of any location.
