COMMUNITY CARE

Comfy Community is a collective dedicated to providing community care for young adults (18-35). Our focus is on preventing mental health issues, nurturing identity formation, strengthening the social safety net, and fostering self-development in the broadest sense

Raised in African collectivist cultures, we’ve experienced the power and influence of strong communities growing up. Our parents, as first generation labor migrants, have set up their own communities with related spirits of all backgrounds. Our mothers worked and started non-profit foundations aimed at empowering their local neighborhoods. As a result, we grew up in community centers; these hold a special place in our hearts.

THE START OF COMFY

From our upbringing, with a hint of 90s nostalgia, we’ve started our own community. Although our members are diverse, they share a common interest in the creative industry (art, music, fashion, photography, film). These young adults also share a loss: they do not feel represented by the current range of community centers and are looking for other environments for self-development, growth and inclusivity. Comfy Community is active both online and offline in various neighborhoods and countries. This hybrid way of working is inspired by the nomadic way of life of our ancestors. Comfy can create a community center out of any location.

Our toolkit consists of events, workshops and creative content. We bring our community together physically and virtually through walks, art projects, dinners and working groups. We believe that self -development does not always arise by stepping out of your comfort zone, but rather in safe spaces, where everyone feels comfy. We believe that self -development happens with 1 leg in the comfort zone and 1 leg in the stretch zone: a place where there is room to stretch or grow, but where everyone feels (emotionally) safe.
